Ryu Narushima Fight Clip Highlight

Ryu narushima was one of the greatest, technically-gifted karate fighters in the world. Ryu Narushima was my karate idol who i admire so much. He has such a crazy-speed-high-round-house-kick, what in japanese called jodan mawashi geri. If u've seen this clip you will understand what i'm talking about. Ryu Narushima postured a short body, only about 170 cm or less maybe. But he has such a abbility to take down his opponent that much more bigger than him. He once had fight Francisco Filho which postured 186 cm, but too bad, he lost the match. But it was a great achievment with his small body to pass to quarter final with his small body. with all respect, osu!

FYI, Ryu Narushima now teaching his art of fighting in the main honbu(the main headquarter) dojo, Tokyo. So if you want to learn from the best just come to Tokyo =)
note: thanx for daisukey, for his great video.

Francisco Fliho Fight Clip: Francisco Filho VS Hajime Kazumi

This fight clip taken from 7th Kyokushin World Open Tournament,on Final stage, between Hajime Kazumi from Japan and Francisco Filho from Brazil. This was a remarkable match for Francisco Filho, because this is his first-time-final appearance in world open tournament. Too bad, he declared lost by judgement after several extended time. But for many martial art observer, Filho was the real champion at that time.Identical,In my own opinion too, Filho was more dominating the match than Hajime Kazumi at that time. But still, The tournament held in Japan, so did the refree takes side on Japan athlete, logically and factly.

So what do you think about this match, your opinion will be highly appreciated, please dont mind to leave your comment here =) osu!

Francisco Filho the Chiquinho

Francisco Filho,is one of the most techniqueful and powelful kyokushin fighter I've ever know.
Francisco "Chiquinho" Filho (born January 10, 1971) is a retired Brazilian Kyokushin Karateka and kickboxer. He is one of the few non Japanese fighters to have successfully completed the 100 man kumite.

Francisco Filho made his professional K-1 fighting debut on July 20, 1997 at the K-1 Dreams 1997 tournament against the legendary Kyokushin and Seido Kaikan fighter Andy Hug. This was their second encounter, the first being at the 5th Kyokushin World Tournament in 1991 that resulted in a victory for Filho. The second fight was also won by Filho quickly earning the Brazilian a large fan base in Japan as well as making him one of the then top contenders for the K-1 World GP Championship title.

Filho has since held championship titles in both K-1 as well as in IKO-Kyokushin Kaikan. He has not taken part in any major competition since 2004 but remains active developing young fighters and in overseeing Brazil’s Kyokushin national team .

Nowadays, Filho take his time to train a new talent of kyokushin karate fighter. He now, on his dojo in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil being a shihan ( a great teacher of kyokushin) who dedicate his time and effort to make a new brazilian kyokushin star.

Filho as a KO-artist

Francisco Filho in his country, brazil, also well-known as 'the killer' . Means he fights very hard, powerful, and strike with very efective move. Therefore he's often makes his oponent scare of him. identical type with Ryu Narushima from Japan they famous for his 'ichigeki' tehnique (ichigeki means one-strike-knock-down) which make them a tousgh KO-artist.

kyokushin karate

Kyokushin kaikan (the word kaikan means a style of fighting) is a style of stand-up, full contact karate, founded in 1964 by Masutatsu Oyama who was born under the name Choi Yong-I . Kyokushinkai is Japanese for "the society of the ultimate truth." Kyokushin is rooted in a philosophy of self-improvement, discipline and hard training. Its full contact style has had international appeal (practitioners have over the last 40+ years numbered more than 12 million).

Kyokushin has influenced many of the "full-contact" schools of karate, emphasizing realistic combat, physical toughness, and practicality in its training curriculum. Many other martial arts organizations have "spun-off" from Kyokushin over the years, with some adding additional techniques, such as grappling, but continuing with the same philosophy of realistic and practical training methods.

Technique & trainings

Kyokushin training consists of three main elements: (1) technique, (2) forms, and (3) sparring. These are sometimes referred to as the three "K's" after the Japanese words for them: kihon (technique), kata (forms), and kumite (sparring).

The example of kyokushin karate training can be seen in this clip :

the clip taken from the 8th-world-open japan contingent training

the second clip is showing us the style of kyokushin karate kumite :

Kyokushin Today

Existing as a single organization under the leadership of the founder, Mas Oyama, the Kyokushin organization, after the Master's passing, broke down into various self-serving groups, each claiming their own authority as representing the original Honbu.

Various other organizations have stemmed from Kyokushin and teach similar techniques but go by different names. Also, numerous dojo throughout the world claim to teach a Kyokushin curriculum without formal connection to the organization. Although difficult to quantify, it is conjectured that the number of students and instructors involved in learning or teaching the style or one of its close variations around the world is significant and numbers in the millions.

Oyama's widow passed away in June 2006 after a long illness. According to the Japanese legal system the Custodian of Oyama's intellectual property and legacy is the youngest of his daughters, Kikuko (also known as Kuristina). The original IKO Honbu continues to operate, represent Oyama and run classes daily. The IKO has member dojos in most regions of the world.

The world open tournament

The world open tournament is the biggest kyokushin karate tournament event held every 4 years, mostly in Japan. The 'open' means that the tournament is welcome for all other style of fighting like jiu jitsu, tae kwon do, seidokaikan karate, shotokan karate, judo, etc. But still, using kyokushin karate fighting rule, that have been described above.

That's one of the reason why they 'dare' to call it 'the strongest karate' which also named after sosai oyama 'unbeatable fight record'.

Point of kyokushin karate kumite
The point of kyokushin karate located at technique named 'ichigeki', means 'one-strike-knock-down' tehnique. Many strike without power and efective impact will be just waste of stamina, therefore the ichigeki technique is essenstial in the kyokushin karate way of fight. Ryu Narushima, Andy Hug, and Fransico Filho are named for one of the most famoust KO artist.

Kyokushin Karate Famous practitioner

Famous name who train under kyokushin karate style is Andy Hug, Dolph Lundgren, Glaube Feitosa, Francisco Filho, Ryu Narushima, Akiyoshi Matsui, Ade Rai(world natural body building champ that train kyokushin karate in indonesia), and also well-known hollywod artist Sean Connery.

Andy Hug Biography

From Rocky To Samurai

Andy Hug was born on 7th September 1964 in the small village of Wohlen in Switzerland. Because his mother was unable to care for him, Andy was immediately given up for adoption. Andy Hug spent the first years of his life in an orphanage, until his grandmother took over his care when he was three years old.

It has been said that Andy's home situation brought on mocking and bullying from his classmates. When a friend of Andy's introduced him to the local Karate dojo, (he was only 10 years old at the time) Andy began taking karate lessons so he could fight back. Andy quickly became so good that the Swiss Karate Federation bent the rules to allow the teenaged sensation to compete with adults for the All Switzerland Karate Championship. Andy won the tournament easily!

Andy was only 19 years old when he fought in Japan for the first time, at the Kyokushin 3rd World Open Tournament in 1983. Andy was a newcomer and a young talent, and he impressed the whole world with his unique fighting skills and technique. Four years later, at the 4th Kyokushin World Open in 1987, Andy made it to the finale by easily defeating big fighters like Masuda from Japan and Ademir da Costa from Brazil - both of whom have passed the ultimate test in Kyokushin, the 100 men kumite.

The 4th World Open final was a fight against the two best technical fighters ever in the history of Kyokushin: Matsui and Andy. It was the first time ever that a non-Japanese fighter was in a World Open finale, and today Kyokushin karate-ka and fight lovers around the world still talk about the big finale, and about the outcome and the result. But no matter the result, Andy opened a new area for European and western fighters, and showed the world that by hard training and true skills, anybody can become a champion. To a lot of people, Andy was the true winner of the finale, and should have been the champion of the 4th World Open Tournament.

One year later, on 17th September 1988, a special Kyokushin karate event was held in Sursee in Switzerland. It was the 1st International Super-Cup, which had been organized by the Swiss Karate Association. Kyokushin competitors from Japan, Great Britain, the Netherlands, Hungary, Germany and Spain fought in the tournament. Before the vice-world champion, Andy Hug was to fight against Kenji Midori from Japan in the finale (Kenji Midori became the 5th Kyokushin World Open Champion in 1991); Andy defeated Siegfried Elson from the Netherlands in the semi-finale. The most exciting fight of the evening was undeniably the finale between Andy Hug and Kenji Midori. After two extension rounds, Andy Hug was declared as the winner of the fight and the Tournament.

In 1989, Andy Hug became Kyokushin European Champion in the Heavyweight Division for the second time. Andy was a superior European champion, and he was so popular that he traveled around the countries of Europe as a special guest instructor at Kyokushin summer camps to teach the art of knock down karate. Before Andy Hug left Kyokushin karate in 1992, to fight for Seidokaikan Karate and in the K-1, he fought against the best fighters and the biggest names in the history of Kyokushin, and only lost a very few fights. Even though it has been more than 8 years since Andy Hug left the Kyokushin karate organization, Andy is still remembered and respected as a superstar and idol for many Kyokushin members - as the true champion that he was for more than a decade in Japan and around the world.

Andy Hug last mail for his fans,

Dear Fans,

I think that you will be shocked when you hear in what state of health I am. When the doctor told me about it, it was an enormous shock even for myself. But I want to inform you about my state of health so that I can fight together with you against this illness. This illness is the most severe opponent of all my fights. But I will win. As if I would stand in the ring I will get power from your cheers and beat this strong opponent. Unfortunately I will not be able to fight at the tournament in October. I will fight against this illness in Japan and one day I will appear again with you. Don't lose hope!

Greetings,
Andy Hug
